Gjogv is a village located on the northeast tip of Eysturoy Island, Faroe Islands, 63 km north of Tórshavn. This village was named after a 200-miter sea-filled gorge that runs north to the sea from the town. I never knew that I would experience the incredible adventure before venturing to the Gjogv Faroe Islands.

I wouldn’t be able to leave without passing over the tallest mountain – Slættaratindur in the Faroe Islands. I was not likely to hike all day long due to the weather and climatic conditions on the top, but the view I saw during the road trip to the Faroe Islands and the village was amazing.

So, let’s not waste time and explore the best island in the Faroe Islands.

Gjogv Faroe Islands

Gjogv is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Faroe Islands. The village is located on the island of Eysturoy, in the northern part of the country. Gjogv has a population of just over 100 people and is a popular destination for those looking to experience the unique culture and landscapes of the Faroe Islands.

The village of Gjogv is situated in a stunning location, surrounded by mountains and with views out over the sea. The village has several small shops, restaurants, and a hotel. The area also has some hiking trails, making it a great place to explore the countryside.

Gjogv is a great place to experience the traditional Faroese way of life. The village is home to several traditional buildings, including a church and a schoolhouse. There are also many small museums in the village, which provide an insight into the history and culture of the Faroe Islands.

It is only 63 km from the capital village of the Faroe Islands, but this village can let you experience the light-years all away from reality and society, and there is nothing much happening here. Nature is everything you will find in this place.

Gjógv has one of the natural fishing harbors, and the history does not come out with an exception. So it has some tragedy as well. You will find many historical memorials dedicated to the fishermen who had lost their lives in the sea.

Undoubtedly, it is impossible to see the beauty of the Faroe Islands without the sacrifices of the local people living in this place.

I paid all the respect to this place and was incredibly humbled by the people living on the site.

Best Places to Stay in Gjogv

There’s no shortage of places to stay in Gjogv, whether you’re looking for a luxurious hotel or a cozy bed and breakfast.

The village is home to several hotels, including the Hotel Gjogv, the Gjogv Inn, and the Gjogv Resort. If you’re looking for something a bit more intimate, the area has several bed and breakfasts, including the Gjogv B&B and the Gjogv Cottages.

You can find guesthouses in the village to spend a night or two. The locals are familiar with the experience, weather, and hiking knowledge.

They can better guide you about anything about this place. Moreover, the guest houses in the Gjógv village offer the tourists free WiFi and local foods.

I do not know about the number of people visiting this island, as it is unexplored and very few people know about this village. It often feels like traveling to the edge of the world.
